EUR/GBP Range Trade Setup - Key Levels for July 2026
EUR/GBP has been trading in a tight range between 0.8350 and 0.8520 since April 2026, driven by monetary policy paralysis: both the ECB and Bank of England are in "hold" mode, with neither central bank willing to move rates further in the current environment. This creates ideal conditions for a range trade strategy.
Why the Range Is Holding
EUR/GBP is primarily driven by ECB versus BoE policy divergence. When the ECB cuts relative to the BoE, EUR/GBP falls. When the BoE cuts first, EUR/GBP rises. Currently, neither central bank is cutting, so the cross is stuck in a band reflecting the near-identical policy stances. This is unlikely to change until at least September 2026 when both banks next meet with potential for action.
Range Trade Setup
- Sell at resistance: 0.8510-0.8520, stop above 0.8550, target 0.8380
- Buy at support: 0.8360-0.8370, stop below 0.8330, target 0.8490
- Range midpoint: 0.8435 - avoid trading here, wait for extremes
Range Breakout Scenarios
The range will break when one central bank moves. If the BoE cuts first in September, expect a break above 0.8550 targeting 0.8700. If the ECB cuts first, expect a breakdown below 0.8330 targeting 0.8200. Watch for BoE and ECB communications in August for early signals of which scenario is more likely.
Range trades have a higher win rate but require discipline to take profits rather than holding for breakout moves that may not materialise.
